I've sent my computer science resume to 47 companies over the past month and gotten ZERO interviews. I'm about to graduate with a CS degree, have decent grades (3.4 GPA), completed 3 good projects, and did one summer internship. What am I missing??? Is my computer science resume just going into the void? I'm starting to panic since graduation is coming up fast. Any advice from people who've actually gotten callbacks?

@JobHunter2025 Don't panic! The tech job market is competitive right now. Would you mind sharing your anonymized computer science resume? Hard to give specific advice without seeing it. Some common issues: not enough focus on projects, missing key technologies, or not quantifying achievements. Also, are you customizing for each application or sending the same one everywhere?

@JobHunter2025 I was in the same position 6 months ago! My computer science resume was getting ignored too. The game-changer for me was having a hiring manager review it. He pointed out that I was listing technologies but not showing HOW I used them or what problems I solved. Try to reframe your projects to focus on problems, solutions, and outcomes, not just tools used.

@TechTrekker Here's a screenshot of my computer science resume: [ https://www.google.com/url?q=https://prnt.sc/Gq53yqZB5BA1&sa=D&source=editors&ust=1768584091832599&usg=AOvVaw1-_NfjfwiZ9QhBDzmZDUGp ]
I've been sending pretty much the same one everywhere with minor tweaks. Maybe that's part of the problem?
@EngineerInTraining That's interesting about showing HOW I used technologies. My projects section is pretty basic right now - just listing what I built without much detail on problem-solving.

@JobHunter2025 Looking at your computer science resume, I see a few issues:

Your skills section is a wall of text with every language/tool you've ever touched
Projects lack specific contributions and outcomes
Too much focus on coursework rather than practical applications
No GitHub link or portfolio (huge red flag for CS positions)

I'd recommend reorganizing to emphasize projects first, then experience, then education. Also, I used Resume Writing Lab for my CS resume and it made a huge difference in getting callbacks. Worth considering if you continue to struggle.

@JobHunter2025 Another issue with your computer science resume - it doesn't pass the 6-second test. Recruiters spend an average of 6 seconds scanning resumes initially. Your important info should be immediately visible. Your projects are buried on page 2! Move them up, use bullet points, and highlight technologies used in bold.

@JobHunter2025 ur computer science resume is too generic. needs to show WHAT makes u diff from other cs grads. everyone knows python and java. what specific problems can u solve? also get a github going asap if u dont have one. screenshots of projects arent enough anymore.

@JobHunter2025 I noticed your computer science resume doesn't mention any collaboration tools or methodologies (Git, Agile, etc.). Companies want to know you can work on a team, not just code solo. I added a "Development Methodologies" section to mine highlighting experience with version control, code reviews, and Agile practices, and started getting more interest.

@JobHunter2025 Another tip: tailor your computer science resume for the ATS (Applicant Tracking System). Many resumes get rejected before a human even sees them! Use key terms from the job description, ensure your format is ATS-friendly (no tables, columns, or unusual fonts), and save as a standard PDF.
I'd also recommend checking out craftresumes.com - they have tech specialists who understand ATS optimization for CS roles specifically.

@JobHunter2025 As someone who reviews CS candidate resumes, I see a big gap in your computer science resume: quantifiable results. Don't just say "Built a web app" - say "Built a web app that reduced processing time by 40%" or "Created database solution that efficiently handled 10,000+ concurrent users." Even for school projects, you can quantify performance improvements or user metrics.

@JobHunter2025 One thing missing from your computer science resume that helped me: a professional summary at the top. 2-3 sentences that highlight your specialties and career goals. This helps recruiters immediately understand your focus within CS (web dev, data science, cybersecurity, etc.) instead of having to piece it together from your skills and projects.

@JobHunter2025 another issue - your computer science resume formatting looks outdated. Modern tech resumes are clean, minimalist, and easy to scan. Avoid the templates from Microsoft Word! There are plenty of free tech-focused resume templates online that will give you a more contemporary look. First impressions matter a lot.

@JobHunter2025 I notice your internship description on your computer science resume is very task-focused rather than achievement-focused. Instead of "Assisted with database maintenance," try "Optimized database queries that improved report generation speed by 35%." Even if your responsibilities were limited, frame them in terms of contributions and results.

@JobHunter2025 Another thing: your computer science resume doesn't show any soft skills or business understanding. Technical skills get you through the ATS, but humans want to see that you understand how your coding work connects to business goals. Try to connect your projects to real-world applications or business problems they solve.

@JobHunter2025 Looking at your computer science resume, I'd recommend adding a link to your LinkedIn profile as well. Make sure it's fully updated with recommendations if possible. Many recruiters check LinkedIn immediately if they're interested in your resume. Also, have you been applying directly or through job boards? Direct applications on company websites often have better success rates.
