Thanks everyone for the amazing advice! I think I've been focused too much on the ATS part and not enough on making it appealing once it gets to human eyes. I'll implement these suggestions:
Keep the ATS-friendly structure but add subtle design elements
Focus more on customizing CONTENT for each job
Create a second version for networking/direct outreach
Make sure achievements (not just responsibilities) stand out
Add a stronger positioning statement at the top
@UXDesigner415 Your point about F-pattern scanning is really insightful - I'll reorganize to put key info where humans naturally look first.
Do you all think it's worth getting professional help from Resume Writing Lab or CraftResumes like some of you mentioned, or should I try these changes myself first?
@EngineerInTraining I'd suggest trying the changes yourself first using the advice here, and if you're still not getting results after 10-15 applications, then consider professional help. When you do use a service, make sure they specialize in ATS-friendly resume design that also appeals to humans - not all services understand both aspects equally well.
@ResumeSage That's a sensible approach - I'll implement these changes myself first and see if my response rate improves. If not, I'll look into professional help. Thanks again everyone for the thoughtful advice on balancing ATS requirements with human appeal!
