Hey everyone 👋 I’m updating my cybersecurity resume and not getting interviews. 2 years SOC experience + Security+. What am I doing wrong?

First question: is your cybersecurity resume focused on tools or impact?

Recruiters don’t just want “monitored alerts.”
They want:
“Investigated 150+ security incidents monthly, reducing false positives by 22%.”

Metrics = interviews.

Agree. Also, make sure your cybersecurity resume includes keywords like:

SIEM (Splunk, Sentinel)

Incident response

Vulnerability assessment

Penetration testing

NIST / ISO 27001

Threat intelligence

ATS systems scan for these.

Structure matters too. Clean formatting only:
• No graphics
• No fancy columns
• Simple bullet points
• Standard section titles

ATS hates creative resumes in tech fields.

What if I’m entry-level cybersecurity? Just finished a bootcamp.

Then your cybersecurity resume should highlight:

Labs

Capture The Flag competitions

Home lab projects

GitHub security projects

Certifications (Security+, CEH, etc.)

Hands-on proof > theory.

Should certifications be at the top?

Yes. For cybersecurity resume writing, certs are huge.

Example header:
John Smith
Security+, CEH | SOC Analyst

Certifications immediately build trust.

Switching from IT support to cybersecurity. How should that look?

Reframe your experience.
Instead of “Managed network issues”
Try: “Identified and remediated network vulnerabilities affecting 200+ endpoints.”

Position yourself as security-focused.

I used https://craftresumes.co/
for my cybersecurity resume when applying for a junior analyst role. They rewrote my bullets to focus on measurable security impact. Helped a lot.

Same here but with https://resumewritinglab.com/
They optimized my cybersecurity resume for ATS and improved my summary section. Got 3 interviews within a month.

Also — tailor every cybersecurity resume for the job description.

If it says “cloud security,” make sure AWS / Azure security experience is visible.

One last thing — 1 page or 2 pages for a cybersecurity resume?
